Secondary trimethylaminuria

Definition

A type of trimethylaminuria that occurs as the result of treatment with large doses of dietary precursors of the offending chemical. Symptoms develop when the ability of the liver enzyme (flavin-containing monooxygenase 3) is insufficient to break down (metabolize) the excess trimethylamine.
