Xanthomatous hypophysitis

Definition

A rare hypophysitis characterized histologically by mixed inflammatory cell infiltrates consisting of foamy histiocytes, plasma cells, and small round mature lymphocytes infiltrating the anterior pituitary gland. The tissue often contains cystic-like areas of liquefaction filled with lipid-laden macrophages along with lymphocytes and plasma cells.
