Atogepant

ATC Code N02CD07

Atogepant

Definition

An orally bioavailable calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor antagonist that can be used in the preventive treatment of migraines. Upon oral administration, atogepant targets, binds to and blocks the activity of CGRP receptor, thereby preventing CGRP-mediated signaling. By blocking the CGRP-mediated pathways, atogepant is able to relieve or prevent migraine. CGRP-mediated signaling plays a key role in migraine pathogenesis.
